Our Favourite Landscape Projects for Niagara Homes (& Why Homeowners Love Them Too)

Back to Blog

Homeowners often ask us where they should invest their landscaping budget.

While every property is different, there are a handful of landscape projects that consistently deliver the biggest impact. They’re the projects that improve how a home looks, increase curb appeal, and create outdoor spaces that families actually use.

After years of designing and building landscapes throughout the Niagara Region, these are the projects we find ourselves recommending most often — and some of our favourites to build.

Outdoor Living

Why It’s One of the Best Investments for Your Backyard

Modern outdoor patio with a sleek grill, wooden table, and chairs. Twilight ambiance highlights brick architecture and warm lighting under a pergola.

If there’s one trend we’ve seen across Niagara homeowners in recent years, it’s the desire to spend more time outside.

The most successful outdoor living spaces aren’t built around a single feature. They’re built around how people actually use their property.

Rather than asking whether a homeowner wants a patio or an outdoor kitchen, we start by asking how they envision spending time outside.

Do you enjoy entertaining?

Do you cook outdoors frequently?

Do you want space for children to play?

Do you need multiple gathering areas?

The answers help shape the design.

Many of our favourite outdoor living projects combine several features into one cohesive space:

  • Patios
  • Outdoor kitchens
  • Dining areas
  • Fire features
  • Gardens
  • Landscape lighting
  • Privacy planting

When these elements are designed to work together, the backyard becomes a natural extension of the home.

That’s why outdoor living projects remain some of our favourites. Few landscape projects have a greater impact on how homeowners enjoy their property.

Outdoor Kitchens & Entertainment Spaces

Patios

Why We Recommend Them for Almost Every Backyard

If we had to choose one landscape project that delivers the greatest impact for the widest range of homeowners, it would be a well-designed patio.

A patio becomes the hub of outdoor living. Whether the goal is hosting family gatherings, relaxing by the pool, enjoying a quiet morning coffee, or entertaining friends on summer evenings, the patio is usually where it all happens.

What makes a patio such a worthwhile investment is its versatility. Whether it’s a small seating area or a large entertaining space, a patio can be designed around how you actually live.

We also find that patios tend to grow with homeowners’ needs. A homeowner may start with a patio and later add features such as:

  • An outdoor kitchen
  • A fire feature
  • Landscape lighting
  • Garden beds
  • A pool
  • Shade structures or pergolas

The patio often ties everything together.

In Niagara’s climate, proper base preparation and quality materials are critical. A patio that’s built correctly can provide decades of enjoyment with relatively little maintenance.

Poolscapes

What Turns a Pool Into a Backyard Destination

A swimming pool can be a fantastic addition to a property, but in our experience, the most successful projects are about much more than the pool itself.

The surrounding landscape is what turns a pool into a true backyard destination.

When we design a poolscape, we’re thinking about how people will move through the space, where they’ll gather, where they’ll relax, and how the entire backyard functions together.

Some of the most successful pool projects include:

  • Spacious patio areas
  • Comfortable lounging spaces
  • Privacy screening
  • Strategic garden planting
  • Landscape lighting
  • Outdoor dining areas

The goal isn’t simply to install a pool. It’s to create a space that feels cohesive and inviting.

Poolscapes are some of our favourite projects because they combine many different aspects of landscape design into one complete outdoor environment.

Front Entryways and Driveways

The Fastest Way to Improve Curb Appeal

Not every project needs to happen in the backyard.

Some of the most dramatic transformations we’ve completed have involved a home’s front entry and driveway.

The reason is simple: homeowners see the front of their property every day.

A thoughtfully designed entrance can completely change a home’s appearance while improving functionality and accessibility at the same time.

These projects often combine several landscape elements, including:

  • Walkways and front steps
  • Driveway upgrades
  • Natural stone features
  • Garden planting
  • Landscape lighting
  • Retaining walls where needed

What we particularly enjoy about front entry projects is the immediate impact. The before-and-after difference is often dramatic, and homeowners frequently tell us they enjoy pulling into their driveway again.

Throughout communities like Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines, Grimsby, and Lincoln, we’ve seen how relatively focused improvements to a front entrance can significantly improve a home’s curb appeal and overall character.

Sometimes the most impactful landscape project isn’t the biggest one.

A Real Niagara Example: The Francis Project

One project that perfectly reflects many of these ideas is our Francis backyard transformation in St. Catharines.

The goal was to create a functional and inviting outdoor living space that felt connected to the home while providing dedicated areas for relaxation and entertaining.

Like many successful landscape projects, the finished result wasn’t defined by a single feature. Instead, it was the combination of elements working together that made the space successful.

If we had to choose a favourite element of the Francis project, it would probably be the natural stone patio. While manufactured products offer consistency and versatility, natural stone has a character that’s difficult to replicate. The variation in colour, texture, and shape gives the space a timeless feel that we believe only gets better with age.

Projects like Francis are a reminder that the best landscapes aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest budgets or the most features. They’re the ones that solve real problems and create spaces people genuinely enjoy using.

Choosing the Right Landscape Project

The best landscape project isn’t necessarily the largest one.

It’s the one that improves the way you use and enjoy your property.

For some homeowners, that’s a new patio that becomes the centre of outdoor living. For others, it’s a front entry and driveway renovation that transforms curb appeal. It may be a poolscape designed for summer entertaining or a complete outdoor living space that brings everything together.

The most successful landscape projects begin with understanding how you want your property to function and designing around those goals.

If you’re considering a landscape project in the Niagara Region, start by thinking about how you want to use your outdoor space. The right design often creates opportunities you may not have considered—and can completely change the way you experience your home.
